What's New

Popular Sovereignty:
WE THE PEOPLE

The idea of popular sovereignty is based on the consent of the people; we the people. Government, established by the free choice of the people, is expected to serve the people, who have sovereignty, or supreme power.

Government derives its power from the people as outlined in the Declaration of independence and the US Constitution.  If the government misuses its power; we the people have the right to form a new government.

ECC 10.6 Folly is set in many exalted places ... 10.2 The beginning of his talking is folly and the end of it is wicked madness.

    Biography

I am entering my 12th year of teaching (Holy Cow!) and it's still enjoyable ... on most days.  I teach two core subject areas, Social Studies and Math, at Center School for NEISD.  My primary emphasis is in the area of Economics, US History, American Government, Algebra and Geometry.  I am also the webmaster for the following schools:  Center School,  Adolescent Intervention Center, Children Intervention Center, Northeast Transition School, and NEISD Night School.

I attempt to generate as many Hands-on activities as possible, and center lessons on real life applications where applicable.  Most of my lessons are intended for cooperative use on the internet, adapted to fit individual learning behaviors.  Doesn't that sound like a bunch of junk?  My goal is to one day transition into early retirement (when my beautiful and talented wife completes her master piece) and spend my days studying spiritual efforts, politics and how to continue to make my family happy.

Despite what my wife says, I am a much better teacher than she is.  Although I must admit, she is smarter, gifted with words and better looking.

As the year progresses (is it summer yet?), I will continue to add some fascinating new material (although there is that rare student who would rather sleep through it than to listen to me ramble on and on) so check back from time to time.  Man, when do I find time for this stuff?  Between teaching, helping Veronica raise our two kids (at least I think I'm helping- does putting in a video count?) and operating our own home business (canfieldstudios.net), finding time to update can be thin.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the site and can use it in your classroom or at home.

The following is a list of lesson plans and websites I've generated for the internet and the happy use of my students.

Obviously, it's a work in progress - dare I say, "Masterpiece in progress" - nay.  It is a lot of fun though.  The intent is to have one site that is self-contained with limited outside sources, easy to navigate, educational, fun and covers Texas testing objectives / TEKS, TAKS, SDAA and LDAA guidelines.

Thanks, and Enjoy!

This page will be loaded with fun goodies in due time (that roughly translates to never) so check back from time to time and if you have a super lesson plan you'd like to share, we'd love to have it:  Please email  vcanfield@satx.rr.com.  Thanks for visiting and best wishes to you and your family.

Something to think about ...
That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.
Vanity of vanities; all is vanity.  And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Ecclesiastes3.15, 1.2, 1.17, 1.18 King Solomon

With great knowledge, wisdom and power comes great responsibility.  We are lead to think more, do more, act more and be more.
1
Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely -- Historian Lord Acton (1834-1902)
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end...liberty is the only object which benefits all alike, and provokes no sincere opposition...The danger is not that a particular class is unfit to govern.   Every class is unfit to govern...Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
